The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that seven crypto ATMs were seized and two people arrested on suspicion of running an illegal cryptoasset exchange, following joint action with the Metropolitan Police. The operation, detailed in a press release on 17 July 2025, involved searches at four locations in southwest London.
According to the FCA, the individuals were interviewed under caution and released while further investigations continue. The regulator reminded the public that operating a cryptoasset exchange or ATM without FCA registration is unlawful, and that there are currently no crypto ATMs legally operating in the UK.
